History of Bhagwan Birsa Zoo

Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park, also known as Ranchi Zoo, was established in 1994 in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. It was named after Birsa Munda, a legendary tribal freedom fighter of Chotanagpur area.

The zoo was initially recognized as a small zoo, but in 2013, it was upgraded to a medium zoo by the Central Zoo Authority. The zoo is spread over 104 hectares, with 83 hectares dedicated to the zoological section and 21 hectares dedicated to the botanical section.
